As a tribute to the work of Gazan music teacher and social activist Ahmad Moin Abu Amsha, we will gather to hold a single note by voice or instrument for one hour. The action joins a series of initiatives by Israeli musicians that emerged during the war, inspired by Abu Amsha, who encouraged his students to sing and play along with the sound of the drones hovering over their daily lives, as an act of resistance against the erasure of Gaza’s cultural institutions. The drone, once part of the harsh reality, became in his hands a musical instrument – a means of presence and solace.
In drone practice, the long, sustained tone might seem aimless, but in its stillness lies power – a frequency that remains, resonates, builds space, and leaves a vibration even after it fades.
Like the Buddhist metta (loving-kindness) meditation, the act is performed with generosity, without purpose or goal, only with intention. You’re invited to join – bring an instrument or simply your voice.
